Today I stepped out into Your white wash of winter.
I breathed in the morning air
and I swear I felt each corner of my lungs freeze and shatter.
The wind blew in my eyes without permission,
stealing one of my tears.
Frozen to the tops of my cheeks
are my lashes, for just one moment.
I open my eyes,
ice tearing from skin.
It reminded me of a lover,
teeth sunk into my shoulder whilst we made love.
Beloved God, thank You for the cold.
